Privacy policy
RuntimeWise has no accounts, sign-ups or forms. The calculators run in your browser; what you type into them isn't sent to us.
What is collected
Like any website, the web server may keep standard request logs (IP address, browser, pages requested, time) for security and reliability.
We use Google Tag Manager and the Google measurement tags it loads, such as Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It sets cookies and collects data such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser. We use it only in aggregate.
Links to retailers
Some links to manufacturers and retailers, including Amazon, are affiliate links. When you click one, that retailer may set its own cookies to record that you came from us. Their privacy policies apply on their sites.
Your choices
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. To ask about data related to you, email [email protected].
Changes
We will update this page if what we collect changes, and change the date at the top.
Who does this privacy policy cover?
This policy covers RuntimeWise, run by RuntimeWise editors, and every page on this website. It was last updated on 2026-10-12.
It explains what information reaches us or the services the site relies on when you visit, why, and what you can do about it. It doesn't cover brand stores, Amazon or the source documents we link to. Those sites have their own policies, which apply once you leave this one.
Does the site set cookies?
Yes, through Google's measurement tools. Every page loads Google Tag Manager (RuntimeWise's container), which loads Google's measurement tags such as Google Analytics. Those tags set cookies and collect data such as the pages you view, your approximate location, your device and browser, and how you arrived, so we can count visits and see which pages are useful. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy, and we see it only as aggregated reports.
The site itself stores nothing in your browser's local storage, shows no advertising trackers and has no social media widgets. You can block or delete these cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on; the pages work the same without them.
Do any third parties receive data when you load a page?
Yes, a few do. Pages load their fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), and pages that show a product photo load it from Amazon's image servers (m.media-amazon.com) or from the manufacturer's own image server. Each of them receives your IP address and browser details when the image or font loads. Product images are requested without telling the image server which of our pages you are on.
- What Google receives. The request for the font files, which includes your IP address, your browser and its settings, and the page that asked for them, as any web request does.
- Whose rules apply. Google, Amazon and each manufacturer handle that data under their own privacy policies. We don't receive it.
- How to limit it. Browser settings or extensions that block third-party fonts or images stop those requests. The pages still work, with your device's fonts and without the product photos.
Requests to any website also pass through the server that hosts it, which can record standard request details such as IP address, browser, the page requested and the time. This policy doesn't name a hosting company yet. We use that kind of information only to keep the site secure and working.
What happens to what you type into the calculators?
Nothing leaves your device. The runtime calculator and the solar recharge calculator run entirely in your browser and send nothing to us.
The model data they use is part of the page when it loads. When you pick a station, enter appliance watts or set panel ratings, the arithmetic happens on your device. Close the tab and the inputs are gone, because they were never sent or saved anywhere.
What happens when you click a link to a store?
You leave our site, and the store's own policy applies. Links go to brand stores and Amazon, and those sites set their own cookies under their own policies.
Affiliate links are marked rel="sponsored nofollow". When one carries our tracking code, the store uses it, often with a cookie, to record that the visit came from us so it can credit a qualifying purchase. The store doesn't pass us your name, address, payment details or what else you looked at. The affiliate disclosure explains which links earn.
Links to government and lab documents are citations with no tracking code. Links to a manufacturer's own website carry that brand's tracking code once its affiliate program approves us (Jackery today). Any site you land on may set its own cookies.
What do we receive if you email us?
We receive your email address, the message and anything you attach. That's the only personal information you can choose to send us, because the site has no forms, accounts or newsletter.
We use it to answer you and to act on what you asked, such as checking a reported spec. We don't add you to a mailing list, we don't sell your information, and we don't share it for advertising. If you'd like us to delete your messages, say so in an email to [email protected]. Details on what to include are on the contact page.
What information don't we collect?
We don't collect anything about you beyond what you choose to email us. The list of what we don't have is longer than the list of what we do.
- No accounts or profiles. There's nothing to sign up for, so there's no name, password or saved preference.
- No payment details. We don't sell anything. Purchases happen on the store's site, under its policy.
- No calculator inputs. What you type stays in your browser.
- No cross-site tracking. We don't follow you to other sites or build an interest profile for advertising.
- No location data. We don't ask for your location. The only location signal is the IP address that any web request carries.
Is the site meant for children?
No. The site is written for adults choosing and buying power stations, and it isn't directed at children.
We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the site has no sign-ups or forms, the only way a child's information could reach us is by email. If you believe a child has emailed us, contact [email protected] and we'll delete the message.
What rights do you have over your data?
Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you rights such as asking what personal information a site holds about you, asking for a copy, or asking for it to be deleted. You can make any such request by email.
We hold very little. There's no account, and our analytics reports are aggregated by Google rather than tied to your name. If you have emailed us, your emails are the only thing we could find. Data collected by Google Fonts, Amazon or a manufacturer's store or image server is held by them, so requests about it need to go to them under their policies. We don't make specific legal promises tied to any state's law. We'll answer honestly about what we hold and act on reasonable requests.
The same applies to anyone who reads the site, wherever they are. Because we keep no profiles, there's nothing for us to correct, export or restrict beyond your emails. If you think we hold something we shouldn't, tell us and we'll look. A clear request with the address you used makes it easy to find what, if anything, we have.
Browser signals such as Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control don't change how the site behaves, because it doesn't track you to begin with.
How do you contact us about privacy?
Email [email protected] and put "Privacy" in the subject line. Say what you'd like to know or what you'd like us to do, and from which email address you wrote to us before, if any.
We may ask you to confirm the request came from that address before we act on it. We can only answer for information we hold. For data held by Google, a brand store or Amazon, contact that company directly under its own privacy policy.
How will you know if this policy changes?
We'll update this page and its date when what the site collects changes. The date at the top shows the current version, last updated 2026-10-12.
The changes we can foresee are adding a new measurement or advertising service, or changes to how our hosting is set up. Either one will be described on this page before or when it takes effect. The way we research and publish is explained on how we research.
